Lucas Giolito, the 1# High School baseball prospect in the nation, currently signed to attend UCLA, is likely to miss his entire senior season, the LA Times reports. Giolito’s stats have been quite impressive, and there was little question he would be the first pitcher drafted in this year’s MLB draft.
Giolito, a 6’6 right-hander from Santa Monica, has had scouts drooling over him for years now. The Harvard-Westlake senior is listed as having a mid 90s fastball, with great breaking ball command.
Unfortunately for Lucas, the question now is whether or not he can bounce back quickly, in time for Fall Ball at UCLA, and impress a few scouts along the way enough to keep his draft stock high.
For the Astros, on the other hand, the burning question is clear: To draft, or not draft Giolito? Houston, you’re on the clock!
