MLB Notes, June 28th

Earlier this morning I attended the Chicago Blackhawks championship parade. This has nothing to do with the MLB, but I just had to tell someone.

  • Marlins’ 35 year old outfielder Juan Pierre has 18 stolen bases and just an 8.4 strikeout percentage this season – Top 10 in both categories
  • The Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter has scored 58 runs this season (4th in MLB) and holds a .358 BABIP
  • 4 major leaguers have maintained a BABIP of .390 or higher this season: Jhonny Peralta, Joe Mauer, Miguel Cabrera and Michael Cuddyer

This was short and sweet, like my Friday work productivity.

MLB Notes, June 26th

  • Three of the top 5 pitchers in K/9 average this year are Tigers‘ starters: Anibal Sanchez (11.13), Max Scherzer (10.63) and Justin Verlander (10.21)
  • Run support? The Rays’ Matt Moore holds an individual record of 10-3 this season, but the 2nd highest BB/9 rate in the league at 4.98
  • Unfortunately for the Royals’ Wade Davis, opponents hold a .380 average against him on BABIP
  • When it comes to stranding runners, the Pirates’ Jeff Locke is tops in the league with a 85.6% LOB rate. His 7-1 record and shiny 2.06 ERA aren’t too shabby, either
  • Among starting pitchers, the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright holds the highest WAR this season, at 4 even. Mets’ rookie Matt Harvey isn’t too far behind at 3.9 WAR

MLB Notes, June 10

  • San Diego Padres’ Everth Cabrera has 29 steals – tops in the majors – and 5 more than second place Jacoby Ellsbury
  • Milwaukee Brewers’ Nori Aoki has been caught stealing (7), more times than he has been successful (6)
  • The Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles are tied for the MLB lead with 85 team home runs this season
  • As a team, the Houston Astros have struck out a league leading 604 times. They hold a .245 team BA.
  • Patience? (Insert Moneyball reference) The Oakland Athletics lead the league in walks, etaking 254 free passes on the season
